Asymmetric disconnection

Structured unique hair cuts like this is what drives my passion for hair. This hair cut was done by Stacey Broughton using a short graduation cut at 45degres angel at the back and disconnecting the front. The hair was cut to compliment and enhance the good features of the client.

Step by step to a bouffant

The bouffant is a great style to wear for a night out or for a casual occasion. It can be worn with hair accessories to give it a glam look and coupled with great make-up and a fantastic outfit, this hair style can have you turning heads. I'll give you a step by step guide on how to recreate the look.

Step 1: Section the hair in 3 sections. Section off the crown area (top of head) where the bouffant will sit. Section off the back area just before the neck and also section off the front.

Step 2: Back comb the sectioned off crown area by holding sections up and forward, back combing gently. After back combing smooth out the hair into one and twist it securing it with a pin.

Step 3: After securing with pins, take the hair from the sides and wrap around the hair in the crown area also securing with a pin. Brush it out to blend with the back.

Step 4: When you have secured the hair and blended the sides in, start curling the parts of hair that is hanging from the secured bouffant. This will allow you to create movement or designs with the hair rather than leaving it hanging.
Step 5:
Put curls, spirals or waves in the parts of the hair you desire. Use hair spray to maintain the hair and allow it to last longer.

Finish off the style by curling the front as desired and checking the height of the bouffant
and there you have it! I hope this was helpful

Who's rocking retro?

A snap of retro inspired looks...
Talia Rozario
Talia used backcombing, hairspray and hair grips to create this look. She recreated this look with an inspiration from 1950s and incorporated her unique character into the style. She added a head scarf around and under the roll for character. This season Talia will be heavly influenced by the vintage 1950s look.

Adella was going through a 'natural look' faze  which was inspired by many YouTube bloggers namely Taren. She also loves Janelle Monet's look. Adella created this hair style using 'freetress jerry curls' weave which she comed out and added leave in conditioner to redefine the curls. After rolling the front of her hair, she watched a tutorial on YouTube on how to tie the scarf. This look only took her 15mins to create. Her signature hair look this season is curls.

Shirlz@ Hair iLove
My look was inspired by "Vintage hairstyling-Lauren Rennells pg 117", a book i borrowed and also the fact that i'm in love with everything vintage. I created the style using my lace wig which i tied into a loose ponytail at the back and added the headscarf to it and tied it round. I left the front out which i rolled over the scarf. The style took me 10 minutes and a lot of pins. My hair signature this season will be anything 1920s-1960s revolutionarised with my unique character.

Spring/Summer hair trends

The year 2012 marks the start of a new decade for the majority of us. There is a huge hype about this year  and i have to admit i'm hyping too. I think this year will be bursting with the revival of previous iconic fashion trends with a individual personal twist added. In 2012 we will see the evolution of iconic fashion.
Here are some of the hair trends I think will rock S/S 2012...

2012 will see various "Afro" styles being rocked. Despite the massive debate of Natural Vs Relaxed hair, many are growing out their relaxers and showing off the versatility of Afo hair. If you are transitioning at the moment, why not add some extentions that mimic your natural curl to enhance your "Fro". Hair iLove recommends Evertress Soft Coil or Remi Collection Indian Jerry Curl Weaving depending on your hair curl pattern.

1940s Retro hair styles...

I dont know about anyone here but I am obssessed with retro hair styles and everything to do with that era. The hair the clothes you name it iLove it.

Create the afro look with twist out and pins. Create the loose curls with heated rollers and hair spray.
Step by step guides coming soon

Look after YOUR hair...weave or not!

Having a weave doesn't mean we should neglect our hair. Yes, weave comes with a whole lot of benefits such as versatility, easy management and the ability to give your hair a break but I am seriously concerned about the health of your hair underneath. Here are a few techniques and habits to adopt to help reduce common problems that could occur when hair is mistreated.
Traction Alopecia Traction alopecia is a form of alopecia, or gradual hair loss, caused primarily by pulling force being applied to the hair such as pony tails, braids and cornrows.

Prevention

  • Vary the pattern of your base cornrows. so if your stylist plaits your hair all round, change it the next time by plaiting it all back.
  • Massaging your scalp and focusing on that area helps to increase blood flow which encourages hair growth in stagnant areas.
  •  Try Phytospecific phytogrowth serum or PhytoSpecific Anti-thinning Program, they are expensive alternatives that work but do take time.

Dry, brittle hair
This can be caused by various factors such as diet, climate, stree and so on but I will focus on lack of moisture in the hair.

Prevention

  • Carry out a deep moisturising treatment once or twice a week followed by a protein treatment once a month. Too much protein in the hair can cause it to become too hard and break off so be careful.
  • Try washing your hair with shampoo that is moisturising and doesn't contain harsh chemicals like sulphate that can strip the hair of its natural oils. Kera Care have a great range of products available for relaxed and natural hair.
  • For natural hair, try "Co-washing", a method which maintains the much needed moisture in afro hair (relaxed or not).
I'll leave it at this for now my fellow bloggers. If you have any points or issues you want to raise, feel free.

Its just.... an idea!

So I've had this idea for a while and at long last i have slowly figured out how to get this on a roll. This blog is dedicated to the hair and beauty industry but can also feature the things we hold dear to our hearts.
This blog will be very different from your norm...
